Today’s Shawls – Not Your Grandmother’s Old Wrap Anymore!

Today’s Shawls – Not Your Grandmother’s Old Wrap Anymore! Now Fashion’s ‘must have’ accessory!

Parisian women wear them daily and in the trendsetting countries like Italy, Spain and France the fashion designers have revised the look and created the shawl as a recent addition to the 2012 catwalks and runways – so where is this ‘it’ accessory in your closet?

A ladies shawl is a stylish yet purposeful way to add ‘je ne sais quois’ and a pop of color to a plain dress, tee shirt and jeans while taking the bite out of the cold.  Whether it’s a classic soft Pashmina to a dressier silk fabric – you can take your favorite Little Black Dress and give your entire look more pin-ash.  Showcase your own personal creativity with all the vibrant colors and unique designs for the ultimate fashion statement and keep in mind…the real value of the shawl is determined by how you tie it!

Classic viscose shawls have been a favorite with women for a very long time – with the elegance and fine Turkish craftsmanship – they can be even worn with the most formal of wedding attire for brides, bridesmaids and guests.

“A shawl is an accessory that grows with you,” said Nil Soucek, Owner and President of Splendor for Your Guests. “It rocks the business world, yet is elegant enough for weddings. All while adding sophistication to every woman’s basic wardrobe.  Shawls stand the test of time!”

While wedding industry experts are always looking for the perfect solution for a touch of class, whimsy or color for their bride’s special day – branch out and think in complimentary color tones that will enhance and add overlaying shades of texture!  Try not to fall in to the ‘matchy – matchy’ trap and don’t choose colors that exactly match the flowers, bridesmaids’ dresses and linens.

Look no further for the perfect gift for all ages.  You can add that personal touch by having it monogrammed with their first initial on their favorite color shawl.  Cozy up with a wool blend shawl trimmed with faux fur for the ultimate gift.

The shawl shopping list is in with a mix of patterns and textures in fun floral, lace, knits, cottons, silk and tweeds. Once upon a time you were given a shawl and you folded it into a drawer. Well it’s time to take it out – because today is all wrapped up in shawls and you don’t want to be left behind!

Rain, Rain Go Away!

by on Oct.27, 2011, under Inspiration, Recommended Vendors, Shawls, Umbrellas

This summer, Fresh Events worked with Arrowhead Golf Club to create an open house to show off their gorgeous venue to Colorado event professionals. We were thrilled when they asked us to incorporate our products in the tablescapes at the event. Even better, top event photographer and friend, Joe Keum of Studio JK, captured wonderful images of the designs.

During the evening, ominous clouds rolled in and a huge thunderstorm took hold. The event was split between their two reception locations: the clubhouse and the permanent tent they use for events. In the words of Suzanne Barlow, owner of Masterful Musicians, “Splendor to rescue… AGAIN..Thank you for supplying the means by which to travel with style at Arrowhead Golf Club…you saved us all from looking like drenched kittens!” We were so glad we could help.

Thanks again to Studio JK for these fantastic images!

The Five Super S’s in Splendor’s Shawls

by on Jun.21, 2011, under Inspiration, Shawls, Tips and Suggestions

The Bolero Look

Sophisticated: Picture Audrey Hepburn or Katie Holmes walking down the street with a shawl draped over their heads and the length of the shawl streaming down their backs…with big black sunglasses. That’s sophistication!

Stylish: There are so many ways to wrap, tie and knot a shawl to add an immediate sense of high fashion and elegance to any basic dress or outfit. The bolero look is shown in the photo here. Watch our video on how to wear shawls

Soft: So plush and luxurious you may never want to take it off!

Sensible: Perfect for travel to roll-up your jewelry for the suitcase or wrap yourself in warmth while on the plane.

Summery: Freshen up your wardrobe with honeysuckle pink (shown here), soft lemonade, or garden lilac.

A huge “thank you” to Custom Creations Photography for this beautiful image.

Splendor at the Wedding Preview Event

by on Feb.21, 2011, under Inspiration, Recommended Vendors, Shawls

I recently participated in the Wedding Preview Event, a wedding showcase put on by My Big Day Planner in Denver. In addition to visiting vendor tables and chatting, the brides and grooms were able to witness actual wedding ceremonies, gorgeous gowns, and beautiful reception table designs.

I was honored to be asked to help with the reception table decor and jumped on the chance right away. We used the shawls to adorn the chairs, adding color and texture to the design. We heard some great comments about the luxurious touch. One person even said, “that’s so wonderful, every wedding should include shawls for the guests!”.

Here are some photos from the day (a huge thanks to Keri Doolittle Photography)!

Featured in Couture Colorado – Reds and Ivories

by on Jan.26, 2011, under Inspiration, Recommended Vendors, Shawls

Today, we are featured on CoutureColorado.com! We participated in an incredible photo shoot with one of our favorite people, Lola of Mansurovs Photography and Denver’s best event professionals. Lola had a vision to create the feel of opulence and elegance and achieved it perfectly. The rich, red colors paired with golds and ivories really make a statement. Need some inspiration? See the post.

The flowers, created by Julia of Mulberries Flowers, incorporated a variety of textures, from smooth berries to velvety roses. The stationery products pulled the colors and feel of the design together, thanks to the talents of Julie Sandusky, JS Design. The stationery designs played off the beautiful damask-design of the cake, which was created by Rachel of Intricate Icings (a Food Network Challenge contestant!). Classic Chiavari chairs from All Well Rents were adorned with two shawls from Splendor. The first, an ivory classic shawl, was placed as a backdrop in order to highlight our specialty red silk Leyla shawl. The red silk shawl, with its circle design, pops against the ivory background and adds another detail for the guests to enjoy, besides helping them stay warm. To designate the ladies’ chairs, ivory beads were strung across the shawl. A touch that adds to the opulent feel. See more details

Fantasy Table Design-Royal Romance

by on Jan.24, 2011, under Inspiration, Shawls

Two weeks ago, Julia Kaaren, owner of Mulberries Flowers, was dreaming up a table design that would knock the socks off the Colorado event world at the annual Denver ISES Wedding Showcase. She wanted to include some unique touches and thought of Splendor. It was wonderful working with Julia and when I saw the final result, I was in awe. Deep, rich, royal colors were brought to life with crystals, sequins, and sexy accents. She selected our raspberry classic shawls to adorn the chairs (read on for more details).

The design centered around a gorgeous crystal candelabra – of sorts – glistening with light from spotlights on the table. Special touches like etched wine bottles, votive holders with gorgeous flowers, crystals, and three layers of luscious linens (from Chair Covers & Linens), really created a one-of-a-kind design.

Julia and I decided the best way to incorporate shawls in her design was to drape them over the backs of the deep mahogany Chiavari chairs from All Well Rents. She finished the look with fun pin-tucked chair ties, also from All Well Rents, and a gorgeous stem of orchids tucked into the tie.

Julia’s design won the award for “Best Use of Theme” by ISES members that day. I’m so happy her work was recognized for being stellar.

I’d like to say a special “thank you” to a very talented photographer, Lola Mansurov of Mansurovs Photography, for her vivid images of this work. Lola, I appreciate you, as a photographer and as a friend.

Shawls Save Outdoor Wedding

by on Jan.10, 2011, under Inspiration, Shawls, Umbrellas

Angela and Ty chose the incredible Ritz-Carlton on Beaver Creek Mountain, overlooking the majestic Rocky Mountains, for their 10/10/10 wedding. Angela’s dream was to have their ceremony outside, amidst the true beauty of the state they call home. They realized that the weather may not cooperate, so an alternate plan was necessary. Renting shawls and umbrellas through Splendor seemed the perfect solution, both for warmth and for design. Shawls saved their beautiful outdoor wedding.
Their wedding day was a crisp fall day at only 45 degrees. It was dry, but threatening clouds came and went. We set-up the wedding wearing winter coats and wishing we even had gloves. Luckily, by ceremony time, the clouds parted and the sun rose the temperature a bit. Incredible photographers at StudioJK caught some wonderful shots of the day.

Merlot and Pumpkin Shawls on Chairs

We were told that the guests were thrilled to use the shawls as many of the women hadn’t brought coats or even wraps to the ceremony. They also added a pop of color to the chairs and gave us an opportunity to include another special detail to make the wedding unique.

Custom Tags Floating on the Shawl

To make sure they didn’t have to worry about raindrops ruining their plans, they got umbrellas in chocolate and merlot. What a fun way to keep the drops away!

Inspiration: Warm Design with Claret and Ivory

by on Dec.13, 2010, under Inspiration, Recommended Vendors, Shawls

An incredible photographer and my good friend, Lola Mansurov, invited me to participate in a special photo shoot to provide inspiration ideas for brides. Incredibly, she pulled this shoot together in less than a week. Her motivation and tenacity astounded me. She was focused and determined, yet handled set-backs (like having to move indoors the day of the shoot) with ease and grace. I truly enjoyed working with her and the other creative people on this project. The other vendors are some of my favorites in the Denver wedding world.

In this shoot, Lola created a warm, chateau-like feel. She wanted a little bit of traditional, classic design, with bright pops of warm color. To add to the design, we included our latest shawl, the “Leyla“. It’s our cherry red silk shawl and was custom-designed by Nilufer and Lori. It has a subtle, but gorgeous circle pattern that really pops in the light. For this shoot, I chose to fold and drape the shawl over two of the chair backs to create a type of chair cover. The chairs themselves are gorgeous so we just wanted something to add some color and make a complete look. I also added strings of pearl to two of the chairs for extra adornment and to designate which chairs were for the ladies. I love how that turned out.

I’m only including a few photos here. Please read Lola’s blog post to see all photos.
